You're disappointed and embarrassed with how your smile looks. A root canal procedure darkened a front tooth, and the teeth around it look yellow. Whitening products just don't work for your particular problem. Is there a way to brighten your teeth so you can smile confidently in public?
For internal tooth darkening and problems that can't be solved by conservative measures like whitening, your Naperville dentist Pirooz Zomorrodi DDS of Advance Family Dental Care suggests veneers. Also called dental laminates, these ultra-thin, tooth-shaped porcelain wafers whiten and even the surface and spacing of teeth in a simple cosmetic procedure.
Uses of Porcelain Veneers
For many reasons, great aesthetic treatments, such as teeth whitening and composite resin bonding, don't work for some smile problems. After evaluating the health of your smile, Dr. Zomorrodi may suggest veneers for teeth that:
Porcelain veneers are often combined with teeth whitening and bonding for maximum smile improvement.
The Veneer Procedure
Veneers require 2 to 3 dental appointments. First, the dentist and patient plan what the patient wants to achieve with veneers. This plan may include imaging of how the finished smile will appear. Next, Dr. Zomorrodi prepares the front surfaces of the teeth by carefully shaving off a fractional amount of your enamel. This is a gentle procedure, usually done without local anesthesia.
Then, your Naperville dentist takes impressions of the teeth and sends them to a dental lab. Using the model and the dentist's instructions, the technician individually sculpts each veneer, adjusting shape, color and fit for that just-right look.
During your next dental appointment, Dr. Zomorrodi cements the veneers in place. At this stage, color can be most accurately matched by adjusting the shade of the bonding cement. Dr. Zomorrodi carefully checks fit and bite.
Over the next few weeks, the patient will adjust to the feel of the new veneers and any residual tooth sensitivity will subside. He or she will also brush and floss the refurbished teeth just like the untreated ones.
While porcelain veneers are very durable and resistant to stains, the patient should avoid smoking and highly colored foods and beverages, and never chew ice cubes or bite open packages or bottles with the teeth. In fact, these are good rules for any smile - with veneers or without!
